MOL

Middle of Life (MOL)

In product lifecycle management terms, MOL stands for the Middle Of Life, in contrast to the BOL (Beginning of Life) and the EOL (End of Life).

MOL in terms of PLM would typically cover the period after the product leaves manufacturing.
It is during MOL, when the product is in the hands of one or more owners and undergoing various forms of maintencance that lifecycle data is most difficult to obtain.

Product embedded information devices (PEID) assist in gathering critical lifecycle event data.

A key objective of CL2M is to close the information loops between the different phases of life and allowing relevant data to be used to improve a product's design, reduce costs etc. Data from MOL and EOL is availabe to BOL, and similarly, data from BOL is available to MOL and EOL.

It might be argued that when products or components come to the end of their life and are rebuilt or remanufactured that this extends the MOL.

Another consideration could be that the product has come to the end of it's first life and is starting a second or nth life.

Significant is, that data remains available and linked to the product or component across various lives.
