Some Gartner Predictions for 2011…

The transition in application architectures, which began with service-oriented architecture several years ago, continues to accelerate, as SOA and Web architecture mature, event-driven systems become more common and cloud architectures begin to appear.
During the next three years, an intensifying focus on process-related skills, capabilities and competitive differentiators will increasingly separate the process excellence leaders from the laggards among the Global 2000.
Master Data Management [MDM] provides the necessary business-oriented discipline to sustain a "single version of the truth" across the enterprise. MDM is central to organizations focused on leveraging information to reduce business risk and cost, and to improve compliance, growth or transformative strategies.
Our 2011 predictions regarding the World Wide Web and Web technologies focus on key areas of innovation and activity regarding the mobile Web, business models, the Web of rich experience and the enterprise Web.
My Thoughts…
The cloud – Microsoft has embarked on a campaign to educate the public about the cloud.  So, it should not be surprising that it will become more common in 2011.
Process excellence – Business Process Management has been a topic of conversation for years.  Maybe 2011 will be the year that it begins to gain some real traction.
MDM – People have been talking about a ‘single version of the truth’ for about 3 decades.  I don’t see this becoming the next big thing.
WWW – A couple of years ago, I had the opportunity to chat with Tim Berners-Lee [the creator of the World Wide Web].  I brought up the idea that we can’t even imagine how the web will be used in the next 10 years and he agreed.  2011 will be another year of evolution of the web.
Not too long ago, someone pointed out to me that companies care about 2 things – Revenue & Everything Else. So, the big question is how will these technological advances drive revenue?
I wish you all a very Prosperous 2011…
